FINLAND REACHES 40% PENETRATION

HELSINKI, Finland-Cellular penetration rates recently reached 40 percent in Finland, according to Mikael Akermarck, senior researcher with the Finnish Ministry of Transport.

The increased demand is attributable to factors including a shift in perceptions of mobile phones from a “businessman’s gadget” to an essential tool for everyone, said Kimmo Narkilahti, manager of end-user competence for Nokia Corp.

“Once penetration rates reach 20 to 30 percent, this signifies that the mobile phone has reached a particular level of visibility in society,” he said. “The question today is not the need for a mobile, but rather the brand, design and functionality that best fits a person’s lifestyle.”
