Orbcomm Global L.P. said 10 satellites were delivered to Orbital Sciences Corp.’s launch vehicle preparation facility at Vendenberg Air Force Base in California.
The satellites, which will be integrated with the Pegasus XL and Taurus launch vehicles, will be launched into targeted circular orbits to provide worldwide, two-way data and messaging communications services. The delivery of the satellites is the second step in a 10-stage process the company is calling the “Countdown to Global Service.”
The satellites were manufactured by Orbital in its Germantown, Md., facility, where 24 additional Orbcomm satellites are still in production. Orbcomm already has two satellites in orbit, which have been providing service for about 2.5 years.
