DENVER-U S West Communications Inc., with Lucent Technologies Inc.’s Octel Messaging Division, announced it will offer a consolidated wireline and wireless voice mailbox, called U S West’s Access 2 Voice Messaging Link.
Customers in Denver may use the same voice mailbox to store messages from their home, office and mobile phones with one retrieval number, the company said. The service is being offered through the recent launch of Access 2 Advanced PCS personal communications service.
The agreement with Lucent Technologies’ Octel Messaging Division extended the base of more than 200 Octel systems now used for U S West voice messaging and consolidated the wireline and wireless mailboxes into one on the new PCS network.
The companies hope to expand service to Colorado Springs, Greeley and Fort Collins, Colo., by the end of the year. Other potential cities include Portland and Salem, Ore.; and Vancouver, Wash.
