Aeris Communications Inc. announced that Ameritech Cellular Services will deploy Aeris’ MicroBurst technology for short-burst data applications in Ameritech’s cellular territory.
The wireless data messaging solution enables mobile telemetry services like Global Positioning System, remote monitoring, automated meter reading and security alarm systems, Aeris said.
With MicroBurst, short data packets can be transmitted over control channels in cellular networks to Aeris’ central hub facility, which routes the data for delivery to the service provider.
Ameritech’s territory covers a population of some 25 million.
According to Aeris, several other deals with major carriers are being negotiated to bring the company closer to its goal of completing its national footprint using MicroBurst technology by the end of the first quarter.
