QUADRANT TO DEFINE STANDARD FOR SAFETY

Espoo, FINLAND-The Quadrant Consortium, which is comprised of British Telecommunications plc, Nokia Corp., Motorola Inc. and TRW, has been authorized by the British government to begin work on the specification and definition of a new national digital radio service for use by the country’s emergency services.

Through the project, Quadrant will work directly with the emergency service agencies to design and plan the services. The Terrestrial Trunked Radio standard was selected by the emergency services home office because it is the only technology that meets the needs of the public-safety community, said Nokia.
