ERICSSON TO BUILD R&D UNIT IN JAPAN

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-Ericsson Inc. announced it will establish a research and development center in Japan to focus on Wideband Code Division Multiple Access technology and Japanese personal digital communication systems.

Japan is a major market for Ericsson’s products, the company said, and the R&D center “reaffirms Ericsson’s strong commitment to the Japanese market,” said Morgan Bengtsson, president of Nippon Ericsson K.K., a wholly owned subsidiary of Ericsson.

The company also has two joint ventures in the country.
