SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. announced two projects with Telebahia, the A-band cellular operator in Bahia, Brazil.
Qualcomm announced a pioneering project with Nec Do Brasil S.A. and Telebahia to deploy a Code Division Multiple Access 800 MHz overlay system in Bahia. The system will use Qualcomm’s and Nec Do Brasil’s newly developed Interim Standard-634 solution.
Telebahia plans to perform validation tests of the IS-634 architecture on the system, which will provide coverage to businesses and residents in the Salvador metropolitan area and the wider Bahia region, said Qualcomm.
Telebahia also is scheduled to begin subscriber testing of Qualcomm’s CDMA wireless local loop system in Salvador. The trial program, which is sponsored by the national cellular telephone operator, Telebras, is divided into two phases. The first phase includes laboratory tests of the CDMA equipment functionality and performance and the second phase consists of testing by 150 users in the Salvador area.
In a separate announcement, Qualcomm said it signed a memorandum of understanding with Schahin Cury, a telecommunications system integration company, to cooperate on CDMA WLL deployments in Brazil.
