WORLDCOM ENTERS INTERCONNECT DEAL

FRANKFURT, Germany-WorldCom Inc.’s wholly owned German operating company signed an agreement to interconnect its public network with that of Deutsche Telekom.

The agreement, which includes all technical, operational and commercial implementation, is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The plan has been submitted to German regulatory authorities for authorization of the interconnect tariff and ratification.

“This is an important advance both for WorldCom in Germany and for WorldCom in Europe,” explained Colin Williams, president and chief executive officer of WorldCom International. “In Germany we can better serve our customers by providing a competitive national service which complements our unrivaled international portfolio.

“From a European perspective, it is a major stride toward making the concept of a liberalized market in January 1, 1998, a reality.”
