NORWOOD, Mass.-Telco Systems Inc. said its Access45 integrated access multiplexer will be available during the third quarter. It is designed specifically to help competitive local exchange carriers compete in the local exchange market.
The company’s multiplexer products integrate a variety of traffic at the cell site onto the same facilities for transport back to the mobile switching center. Cell Site equipment integrated by the multiplexer includes base-station transceiver subsystems and overlay networks for handling fraud, location, surveillance, Cellular Digital Packet Data, management and supervisory traffic and special alarms.
The Access45 is a wall-mount version of the company’s Access60 Integrated Access Server. The company said the Access 45 provides a medium-ground solution for small and mid-sized companies between high-cost feature rich products and low-cost, minimal featured channel banks.
The company said the Access45’s compactness is one of its key features. Local exchange carriers or private enterprises needed a small product to place in small areas or on top of buildings, said Bryan Knysh, director of business development.
A smaller unit provides for lower costs and less problems dealing with aesthetics, he said.
“As a player in the network access market for the past 20 years, we knew that local service providers needed to have a platform that could handle lower density applications with T1 or TR-08 functionality,” said Dave LeBeau, vice president of product management. “The Access45 is designed specifically for this purpose.”
Telco said the product is targeted specifically at service providers in the local exchange market including incumbents, such as regional Bell operating companies, new entrants for local service provisioning, value added network providers, Internet service providers and independent telephone companies.
