WASHINGTON, D.C.-Swiss Telecom has developed an application platform for Subscriber Identity Module cards that activate portable devices, including recharging prepaid phone cards, over the air.
The SIM card application platform (SICAP) allows the swift introduction of new value-added services, which can either be included in the base subscription or added as options, said Swiss Telecom North America.
The system has four parts, the SIM card Service Center, Short Message Service, SICAP-compatible SIM cards and SICAP-compatible portable devices.
Transmissions of short messages to the SIM card are supervised by a security mechanism. The card component is based on Global System for Mobile communications phase 2 technology. The card operating system includes SICAP message interpreter, or filter, whose prime function is to differentiate between normal and SICAP messages and executive specific applications as required.
