DIGIPH CONTRACTS WITH SIEMENS

BOCA RATON, Fla.-Siemens Stromberg-Carlson agreed to supply Global System for Mobile communications network equipment and services to DigiPH PCS Inc., which holds licenses in the Florida panhandle, southern Alabama and parts of Mississippi. Siemens values the agreement at $74.9 million.

Installation of the system will begin this summer, the companies said. According to Siemens, this is the first GSM system in the region.

“This sale is in line with our strategy to aggressively approach PCS providers in North America, especially those who have obtained licenses to provide wireless services in the 1.9 GHz spectrum,” said Thorsten Heins, director of Siemens’ wireless business unit. “With our experience with GSM technologies in more than 50 countries and over 70 networks worldwide, we are confident of our unsurpassed ability to handle any project.”
