PAIGNTON, United Kingdom-ScottishTelecom awarded a contract to Northern Telecom Ltd. for Nortel’s Proximity fixed wireless access equipment and services designed for use in the 3.4 GHz to 3.5 GHz band. The companies value the contract at $145 million.
ScottishTelecom launched commercial service in Edinburgh using a Nortel Proximity I network. The new contract includes equipment to expand the network in certain areas throughout Scotland.
Proximity uses radio rather than cable to link businesses and residences to public switched telephone networks.
