Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile began integrating DSC Communications Corp.’s INfusion Signal Transfer Point W/2 into its cellular network. The INfusion STP W/2 provides packet switching of Signaling System 7 signaling messages for basic and advanced services such as call set-up, caller name and caller ID, toll free services and access to home location register and visitor location register databases.

Glenayre Technologies Inc.’s Wireless Messaging Group introduced an operator assisted paging system to allow carriers to offer basic and value-added alphanumeric paging services. The GL3930 includes Alpha Mail, a voice-to-text transcription service for subscribers who require immediate communication of messages. It also includes Live Custom Dispatch, a personalized paging service in which operators answer calls with a personal greeting.

Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp. expanded its reseller list for advanced messaging services to more than 30 telecommunications providers including American Paging Inc. and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. Cal LaRoche, senior vice president of Destineer Corp., Mtel’s wholesale arm, said increased interest in Mtel service is due in part to its interactive two-way messaging services and the upcoming acknowledgment paging product, SkyWord Plus.

Preferred Networks Inc. acquired Mercury Paging & Communications Inc., a New York-based 900 MHz paging carrier.

Synacom Technology Inc. signed an agreement with BellSouth Mobility DCS to provide its RoamFree Gateway system for BellSouth’s Interlocking and Interoperability Function. The RoamFree Gateway enables seamless roaming between BellSouth Mobility’s personal communications services 1900 MHz and Interim Standard 41 networks, the company said. RoamFree allows automatic location updates, registration, call delivery and user profile modifications.

WinStar Communications Inc. completed an institutional private placement for $300 million. The company said it also obtained a $150 million facility commitment in 1999 from its underwriters, Credit Suisse First Boston and BT Securities.

Nextel Communications Inc. acquired the specialized mobile radio operations of Progressive Leasing Corp. and East End SMR Repeater Service Co. The companies provide SMR service in Long Island, N.Y.

Illinois Superconductor Corp. intends to offer 1 million shares of common stock, according to a registration statement the company filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Net proceeds of the offering will be used to fund its product development programs and to expand its sales and marketing efforts.
