SAN FRANCISCO-Lucent Technologies Inc. is introducing a design, development and interoperability testing facility designed to speed new applications for wireless carriers to market.
Lucent’s Wireless Innovation Lab is located in Lisle, Ill. “The lab is conceived as an incubator of new solutions born from collaborations between experts from Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies’ research and development arm, and companies participating in the Open Systems Innovations program,” Lucent said.
That program is designed to allow Lucent customers and third party vendors to work together to establish applications that can be deployed over Lucent’s Autoplex systems platform.
“Just as the computer industry has thrived on open interfaces, we intend for our wireless infrastructure to support a range of applications,” said Scott Erickson, marketing vice president for wireless systems at Lucent.
“We’ve successfully deployed the `heavy metal’ for our customers to launch commercial digital service. Now, we’re helping them protect and grow their revenue and earn returns on their capital investment.”
Initially, the lab will focus on preventing network access fraud.
Lucent said it is working with several companies, including Evolving Systems Inc., GNP Computers, VoiceCue Technologies, Corsair Communications Inc., Coral Systems Inc., Centigram Communications Inc., TeleCommunication Systems and Clover Systems Inc.
