ATLANTA-BellSouth Wireless Inc. has agreed to provide its Cellemetry data service to Open Cellular Systems for a railroad crossing monitoring system. Cellemetry allows remote equipment to be managed through data communications over cellular networks.
Open Cellular said it plans to trial the service in Minnesota and Ohio using Rural Cellular Corp.’s network during the second quarter. Several railroad operators already have agreed to install the service, which will notify railroad officials of existing or potential problems at railroad crossing sites.
