MONTREAL-Rogers Cantel Mobile Communications Inc. announced a new pricing program for its Digital PCS cellular customers in the greater Montreal area.
“Montreal and More” costs about $44 a month and includes 400 minutes of calls. Additional calls are billed at 20 cents per minute.
Digital PCS is the AT&T Wireless Services Inc. brand name for digital cellular, based on Interim Standard 136 Time Division Multiple Access technology. Cantel and AT&T recently completed a technology and marketing alliance that allows Cantel to use the AT&T brand and that provides customers of both companies with seamless North American coverage.
Montreal and More follows Microcell Telecommunications Inc.’s recent personal communications services launch in Montreal. Microcell’s Fido service, Canada’s first 1.9 GHz PCS service, offers customers 400 free minutes for about $30 per month, and a $35 per year plan fee.
Montreal and More “meets the needs of a new group of cellular users who spend most of their time in downtown Montreal, but want to maintain the security of a phone that works in the Laurentians and Eastern Townships,” said Pierre Leduc, vice president and general manager, Cantel Quebec. The 400 free minutes can be used in Montreal, Laval and the South Shore areas of Quebec.
Included in the Montreal and More package are caller ID, text and numeric messaging and voice mail, the company said.
