ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s International Cellular Infrastructure Group signed a contract to expand a Global System for Mobile communications network in Kuwait. Motorola values the contract at $7 million.
When the expansion is completed, the network will provide service for more than 116,000 subscribers in Kuwait City, Jahra and Ahmadi, Motorola said.
“We are working very closely with the Mobile Telecommunications Co. in Kuwait to continually enhance their very popular mobile network,” said Gene O’Rourke, senior director of Motorola’s International Cellular Infrastructure Group.
“With this expansion, MTC will be able to accommodate an increasing number of new subscribers, while also offering the enhanced digital features that GSM technology provides.”
The system was originally deployed by Motorola in 1994 to serve 50,000 subscribers. Last year, Motorola doubled the capacity of the system.
