Bouygues Telecom chose the partnership of Nokia Telecommunications and Dassault A.T. of France to provide a DCS 1800 cellular system in northern France. Nokia and Dassault will provide base stations, base station controllers, operation systems, cellular transmission equipment and antennas. In addition, the pair will provide services such as site research and preparation, network engineering and optimization, implementation and maintenance.

Ericsson Business Networks AB signed a letter of intent to sell its production unit in Karlskrona, Sweden, to the U.S./Singapore-based company Flextronics International Ltd. The preliminary agreement calls for Flextronics to assume all manufacturing activities including the production plants, Ericsson said. Most of Ericsson’s employees in Karlskrona will be offered employment by Flextronics. The production plants in Karlskrona manufacture business communication systems such as the MD110 private branch exchanges, Eripax and components for Digital European Cordless Telephone systems.

Motorola Inc.’s Radio Network Solutions Group won a contract from the United Kingdom’s Staffordshire Police and the county’s fire and rescue service to provide it with the SmartZone trunked radio network. The network, named Starnet, will cover the entire county, which has a population of 1.1 million.

France Telecom announced its candidacy for a digital phone license in northern Taiwan. Through its France Telecom Mobiles International subsidiary, France Telecom has a 20 percent stake in the Thcang Da International Co. consortium. Several local Taiwanese firms also hold minority stakes in the venture. France Telecom said Taiwan’s market is expected to have one of the highest growth rates in the world, particularly in the northern part of the island.

Orbcomm Global, L.P. said it has signed an agreement with a consortium of European telecommunications companies to provide Orbcomm tracking, monitoring and messaging in Western and Eastern Europe. The agreement provides the participants the right to develop the market for Orbcomm services.

Innova Corp. and Societe Anonyme de Telecommunications S.A. entered into a cooperative agreement including a master purchase agreement for Innova’s XP4 product line and an agreement for joint development efforts. In addition, both companies will act as distributors for each others XP4 architecture-based products. Paris-based SAT develops telecommunications equipment and services. It will provide its QPSK and 16-QAM modem designs in joint development efforts with Innova. Innova manufactures and markets short-haul, point-to-point digital radios in the 13 GHz to 38 GHz frequency range.
