ENHANCED FLEX NOW IS AVAILABLE

FORT WORTH-Motorola Inc.’s Messaging Systems Products Group has released an enhanced version of its FLEX high-speed, one-way paging protocol.

Version 1.8 of the FLEX protocol offers backwards compatibility with previous versions and provides advantages to carriers worldwide, said Motorola.

The new version eliminates constraints of single frequencies, allowing a carrier to assemble a single wide-area network across a state, nation or continent on any combination of frequencies that a carrier has acquired, said the company. Version 1.8 also facilitates cross-band international roaming for paging and diverts messages between frequencies.

Motorola said existing FLEX protocol-based systems can be upgraded to support the new capabilities. In most cases, the new capabilities will be available to paging service providers as a software upgrade from infrastructure product suppliers.
