SIEMENS TO MAKE CDMA EQUIPMENT

SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. announced it has signed a multimillion dollar, royalty-bearing subscriber equipment license with Siemens Wireless Terminals, a division of Siemens Rolm Communications.

The agreement allows Siemens to develop, market and sell Code Division Multiple Access subscriber equipment for cellular and personal communications services in those markets that adopt CDMA Interim Standard 95, said Qualcomm.

Qualcomm spokeswoman Julie Cunningham said Siemens previously has made commitments to broadband CDMA and other technologies, including Global System for Mobile communications.

Siemens said it expects to have CDMA-based subscriber products available in 1997.
