WICHITA, Kan. – Brite Voice Systems has introduced a cellular phone enhanced service designed to improve the safety of mobile phone use in automobiles.
The company has developed a voicemail service that integrates speech recognition into the VSDmail application. The service, called Sami, provides speech navigation for passcode entry, message retrieval and access to command options, Brite said.
Sami uses speaker independent speech code recognition that allows the system’s recognizers to constantly listen to the subscriber for speech input. When speech input from the subscriber is heard, the system attempts to recognize the appropriate word and responds, the company said. The system’s interrupt capability allows a user to interrupt a system prompt while it is playing by speaking a command such as “delete” or “save.” Also, subscribers can interact with their voice mail system with the same speed and ease they are accustomed to with traditional keypad input to key-over the speech prompts.
