PRINCETON, N.J.-The National Information Bureau Ltd. said it has begun developing an on-line repository of business and consumer information that will allow cellular carriers to review the credit histories of cellular customers at point-of-sale. The information will contain industry-wide data on cellular companies in the United States.
“Currently, no one within the cellular industry maintains a registry of customers that have either defrauded them or gone bankrupt,” said Harry Cutts, president at NIB. “It’s simple for a customer to leap from carrier to carrier and not pay the bill.”
NIB will provide the new service to cellular carriers through access to the Business Analysis and Customer Approval System, the company said. BACAS, originally developed by Bell Atlantic Corp. and acquired by NIB in 1993, enables credit grantors to instantly identify risk at the point-of-sale and greatly accelerate the sales closing process.
Access to multiple consumer and commercial credit reporting services is supplied by BACAS through a single, economical transaction.
