ChinaComm to use Tellabs packet core network

Tellabs Inc. (TLAB) said ChinaComm chose its SmartCore 9100 platform for its packet core network services in nine Chinese provinces, underscoring what Tellabs calls a trend in choosing an independent packet core vendor rather than an end-to-end radio access network solution.
ChinaComm is deploying broadband wireless access services in 10 markets, including Beijing. Tellabs said its SmartCore platform supports wireless access networks from various manufacturers, which eliminates the need to use separate access service network gateways.
“We chose Tellabs SmartCore 9100 platform because of its interoperability with multiple broadband wireless access vendors and its ability to support future service expansion,” said Zhu Shurong, CTO of ChinaComm. “This decision will help us simplify network operations and save operational expenses by eliminating the need to manage and maintain two separate ASN gateways.”
