MONROE, La.-Century Telephone Enterprises Inc. said it will acquire from R&D Cellular Inc., the Mississippi 2 rural service area nonwireline cellular operation headquartered in Tupelo, Miss. The transaction is expected to close in this year’s third quarter.
The RSA, located between Memphis, Tenn., and Birmingham, Ala., will give Century an additional 240,000 pops. Mississippi 2 comprises nine counties, ranks second in the state in population growth and third in the state in retail sales growth, Century said.
Century also has signed an agreement to purchase the Mississippi 6 RSA, which includes the city of Columbus. Century said it now serves more than 223,000 cellular customers in six states.
