Robert Croft has been named president of AT&T Wireless Services’ Messaging Division. Croft will be responsible for the strategic direction and management of AT&T’s current one-way messaging business as well as devlopment of its nationwide personal communications serice, the company said.
AT&T won two nationwide 50/50 kHz paired PCS licenses in 1994 and intends to provide advanced messaging in the near future.
Croft joins AT&T from Crown Zellerbach, where he served in various positions, most recently as vice president of division sales and customer development.
PCS PrimeCo L.P., the broadband consortium of U S West Inc., AirTouch Communications, Nynex Corp. and Bell Atlantic Corp., has named a number of executives regional vice presidents and general managers, responsible for building its personal communications services business in 11 U.S. markets.
Reporting to Daniel Sutherland -regional president and chief operating officer of the southwest region-are Robert Young for the Houston market, previously of U S West, Roy Chestnutt in San Antonio and Richard Hicks in New Orleans, both from AirTouch.
Michael Simkin in Miami, formerly with AirTouch, Claude Ellison in Jackonsville, Fla., who comes from U S West Cellular and Betty Lynott from Bell Atlantic Mobile, will report to Daniel Behuniak, regional president and COO of the southeast region.
Reporting to George Schmidt, president and chief executive officer, are Joe Woods in Chicago and Clifford Fitterer in Honolulu, both from AirTouch, and John Koss in Milwaukee, from U S West. Sharon Marrow, formerly with Bell Atlantic Mobile, was named vice president, sales and marketing, in Chicago.
To support massive growth, Reflection Technologies Inc. said it added a number of professionals in the areas of engineering and marketing. James Prelack was named director of product management, where he will oversee product specification and value-added programs with third-party vendors.
Prelack has been with the company 11 years. Before joining Reflection, he was senior product manager for NEC Technologies’ computer division. Reflection specializes in virtual display-including the FaxView family of products that use its patented scanned linear array technology-and mobile messaging.
The International Mobile Satellite Organization Council has appointed Noel Isotta interim director general of the organization, replacing Olof Lundberg who was named chief executive officer of the new Inmarsat-P affiliate company, formed to implement a global handheld phone system.
Isotta, who recently had retired from his position as deputy director general, will serve until a permanent replacement is determined.
Isotta joined Inmarsat in 1980 as director of administration and finance. He was previously with the European Space Agency for 16 years.
Oki telecom announced Jack Farrell, executive vice president, has resigned his position to join top management at a technology firm in an unrelated industry. To date, no replacement has been found. Farrell worked for Oki for four-and-a-half years.
Corsair Communications appointed Mary Ann Byrnes chief executive officer, in addition to her position as company president. She is replacing Chairman Kevin Compton, who had served as transitional CEO.
As CEO, Byrnes will be responsible for Corsair’s strategic positioning and financial planning as well as the company’s overall operation.
Corsair developed the PhonePrint cellular fraud control system, which uses radio frequency fingerprinting technology to stop cellular fraud. Byrnes said the PhonePrint system has been responsible for shutting down more than three million fraudulent calls this year.
“We’ve deployed our system on a large scale in Los Angeles and made significant progress in other markets, where we expect additional sales soon,” Byrnes said.
Chesapeake Microwave Technologies Inc. has hired Dave Williams as director of operations for the Glen Rock, Pa.-based company. Williams was formerly with Westinghouse Electronics Systems. He has a diverse background in microwave and RF electronics manufacturing for commercial and military applications.
John D. McLean has been named vice president of international affairs for GTE Personal Communications Services. He replaces Lee K. Toole, who was named president of GTE China.
McLean has been with GTE since 1971, when he began as an engineer with GTE Automatic Electric; his most recent position was vice president of technology for GTE PCS in Atlanta.
In his new position, McLean will be responsible for the oversight of GTE PCS international activities including current projects in Argentina, Japan and Korea.
PCS Development Corp. has named Mark A. Moore the company’s chief financial officer. Moore previously was CFO for USA Mobile Communications Inc. and handled financial management in the paging division of Graphic Scanning Corp.
Network USA paging company has hired Chris Smith as chief information officer. He has 15 years of experience managing large-scale networks and software development. He founded the CHRINA Corp. to focus on the personal computer-local access network platform and was a co-founder of SABER Software.
Randy Poole was hired by Network USA as vice president of sales. His responsibilities will include direct and indirect distribution. He previously served as general manager of American Paging Inc., and has worked for Data Documents Inc., GeoComm Partners, MobileComm and Burroughs Corp.
Stanford Telecommunications Inc. has appointed three executives to key positions in the company’s Telecom Products Group. Robert W. Corrigan was named vice president of marketing for the group, and will be responsible for strategic and tactical marketing activities, including market development, product planning and marketing communications. Prior to joining Stanford Telecom, Corrigan was a senior product line marketing manager at Apple Computer Inc.
David Tahmassebi has been promoted to director of strategic accounts. Previously, he was manager of business development. In his new position, Tahmassebi will focus on developing long-term strategic relationships with selected key customers in the areas of interactive CATV and communications.
Allen Edwards is the new managing director of engineering for the Telecom Products Group. He will continue to direct engineering activities and now will be responsible for extending the capabilities of the department with additional engineering talent and expanded facilities. Before joining Stanford Telecom, Edwards held management and engineering positions for 20 years at Hewlett-Packard Co.
The Telegen Group announced Robert Yeager joined the company as manager, integration services. Previously a consultant for Technical Support Group, Yeager brings to Telegen more than 26 years experience in the field of data processing. Palatine, Ill.-based Telegen specializes in information technologies services including information system implementations, applications development management, operations management and provides training to various wireless industries.
John W. Miller was named president of LeBLANC Communications Inc., a division of LeBLANC & Royle Enterprises Inc. of Oakville, Ontario, Canada. In his new position, Miller will oversee the company’s activities in the United States and Latin America. LeBLANC Communications provides towers, telecommunications services, system installation and maintenance and emergency restoration services for damaged towers.
