IRVINE, Calif.-Accqpoint Communications Corp. said it activated its statewide network June 1 in Texas, providing real-time differential Global Positioning System service.
Accqpoint distributes correct-position data over the FM subcarrier bands of the 450 radio stations operated by its parent company, Cue Network Corp.
“This service is targeted specifically for state governments and state public utility systems who require seamless coverage throughout their state,” said Gordon Kaiser, Accqpoint chairman and chief executive officer.
The company activated a statewide network March 31 in Florida, and plans to turn on statewide networks in the next 60 days in Illinois, Ohio, Louisiana and California, Kaiser noted.
A Canadian network was activated on April 23, with service available in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg. Eight additional Canadian cities are scheduled to be added by Sept. 1, Kaiser said.
Cue also uses FM subcarriers to distribute real-time, route-specific traffic information. The company recently won a grant from the federal highway administration to install a demonstration system for the distribution of real-time traffic information between San Francisco and Reno, Nev.
The Cue network also provides messaging throughout North America and has operations in Southeast Asia.
