Bits and Bytes: ID-WiBB simplifies roaming; TNS creates CDMA roaming hub; and more

ID-WiBB, a non-profit organization created to encourage broadband interoperability in Indonesia, launched an Indonesian broadband roaming facility to serve wireless broadband service providers in the region. The initiative will enable roaming between WiMAX and Wi-Fi and potentially LTE operators in the future.
Transaction Network Services created a new roaming hub for CDMA operators. The hub is based on a concept designed by the CDMA Development Group and allows carriers to sign one contract rather than multiple roaming agreements to simplify roaming access worldwide.
Bubble Motion, which provides voice and text messaging technology for mobile phones, said it was awarded a patent that covers the ability for consumers to click, record and send voice-recorded messages to one or many recipients without having to place an actual call. The company filed for the patent in 2002.
Inside Contactless, which provides semiconductor solutions for secure transactions, introduced its SecuRead product. SecuRead is a complete system-in-package near field communications solution that simplifies the process for manufacturers to integrate all of the contactless, security and application functions required for NFC applications.
Bitstream inc. announced the mobile browsing solution that supports Indic languages. Specifically, the solution covers nine languages spoken by about 1.3 billion people living in India and surrounding areas. The solution is built on the BOLT cloud computing browsing platform and includes the BOLT mobile browser with Indic language user interfaces, the ability to enter Indic text on Web pages, and the ability for users to input Indic text into the browser.
Ceragon Networks opened a new Systems Integration and Test facility in Paramus, New Jersey. The facility allows testing of customer specific requirements prior to network deployment, said the company.
Genband established its international headquarters in Galway, Ireland. The headquarters and new business services center will create more than 100 new jobs, said the company.
Nokia Siemens Networks announced its new Flexi base station controller, which the company said provides a 40% increase in voice capacity and up to an 80% reduction in energy consumption compared with existing BSCs. The new Flexi BSC provides operators the ability to move to an all-IP format for communications among base stations, base station controllers and mobile switching centers.
Tellabs said it is opening a new mobile Internet research and development office in Vancouver following its purchase of technology and intellectual property from Zeugma Systems Inc. The company said former Zeugma personnel will join Tellabs’ facility in Vancouver to focus on developing Tellabs mobile solutions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Signage US said its products are helping wireless carriers re-create their retail signage. The company said it recently helped T-Mobile re-brand indoor and outdoor signage for 395 East Coast locations in less than five weeks.
