VZW adds 1.5M customers in Q2

Verizon Wireless released partial second-quarter results showing it added 1.5 million new subscribers to its “Can You Hear Me Now?” network during the period.
The results came in ahead of the 1.3 million customers the industry’s No. 2 carrier posted during the second quarter of 2007, and beat some expectations. Cowen and Co. said it expected the carrier to add 1.2 million customers during the quarter.
Verizon Wireless ended the first half of the year with 68.7 million total customers on its network, with 66.7 million of those being direct, retail customers.
Verizon Wireless’ parent company, Verizon Communications Inc., is set to announce full results for its wireless division July 28. AT&T Mobility is set to release second quarter results July 23.
Verizon Wireless’ results came on the heels of disappointing numbers from Vodafone Group plc, which owns 45% of Verizon Wireless. Vodafone’s stock was down more than 14% early Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange. Verizon Communications’ stock was down just over 2%.
