AUSTIN: IBM to co-host entreprenuership event

The fourth annual Austin Innovators and Entrepreneur Series (AIES) will take place on Wednesday, May 18, with the addition of IBM Corp.’s global startup event known as SmartCamp. IBM’s event will focus on entrepreneurs in the field of smarter planet innovations to provide startups with experienced mentors and investors for a direct route to seed funding and venture capital.

There will be a Livestream webcast of the event, which will open doors and provide registration at 12:30 p.m. at the University of Texas Club on the campus of UT-Austin, located at 2108 Robert Dedman Drive in Austin. Both the webcast and attendance are free. Registration is required here.

The Sharp Skirts, an organization dedicated to helping women build smart businesses will take the floor from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the IBM SmartCamp Austin finalist presentations will take place at 3:30 pm. To 5 p.m.

Keynote speakers start at 5:30 p.m. and include Scott Case, CEO of Startup America, who will speak about his organization via an interactive webcast, and Jim Corgel, general manager of IBM, who will address what SmartCamp is up to locally and globally and how it ties in with IBM’s Global Entrepreneur initiatives. The last hour from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. will focus on networking.

The event is sponsored by the Austin Chamber of Commerce, the IBM Venture Capital Group, the IBM Innovation Center, Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. and  the University of Texas at Austin.
