HTC’s ‘Mobile computer’ lands at Sprint Nextel for $1,500

HTC Corp.’s “first mobile computer” — a mini-laptop with 7-inch screen dubbed “Shift” — will be available starting March 24 in the United States from HTC.com, Amazon.com and Sprint Nextel Corp.
Count your pennies. The device, which runs on Sprint Nextel’s CDMA2000 1x EV-DO network, will cost about $1,500.
The device debuted a year ago at the CTIA show. It runs Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Vista operating system. The key feature is SnapVUE, which provides access to e-mails, calendar and contacts without booting up the device, thereby saving power.
Other specs: the device sports a 40-gigabyte hard drive, weighs 1.8 pounds, offers Wi-Fi connectivity and multimedia functions.
