Wireless e-mail vendor Visto Corp. said it reached a settlement with software giant Microsoft Corp. over patent licensing, an announcement that appears to indicate another legal victory for Visto.
Although the companies did not release specific terms of the deal — typical in such agreements — a press release from Visto said it includes “cash and non-cash consideration.”
Microsoft said the terms of the settlement are confidential and that it had no further comment.
“This settlement is yet another validation of Visto’s strong and important patent portfolio,” said Daniel Mendez, co-founder, executive VP and CTO of Visto. “We are pleased that Microsoft agreed to this arrangement which we believe reinforces our ownership of these crucial inventions and technology.”
Both companies said they will dismiss all pending legal claims.
This is Visto’s second legal victory in less than a year. The company in July announced rival Seven Networks Inc. agreed to license its mobile e-mail patents, a deal which brought to a close three years of legal bickering.
Still outstanding is Visto’s patent claims against BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. That case is set to go to trial in July.
