ORLANDO, Fla. – Novatel Wireless Inc. has won an award for its tiny mobile Wi-Fi hotspot – the MiFi 4082 in the Technology Innovation/Hardware category. This is the second year in a row that Novatel Wireless has won the award. The MiFi 4082, which Novatel dubs an “intelligent mobile hotspot” is the latest addition to MiFi’s lineup, offering 4G WiMAX connections for up to five devices at a time.
The option for 3G also exists in places where 4G WiMAX is not available, making it a pretty versatile device, in a form factor the size of a credit card.
J. Gerry Purdy, Ph.D. and principal analyst at MobileTrax said the MiFi 4082 was chosen by the judges from amongst a “strong field of mobile hotspot entrants.”
The device also comes pre-loaded with widgets and application support, which Novatel claims adds capabilities “beyond just Internet connectivity.”
It also sports a handy external e-Ink display which shows how much battery life one has left, as well as the signal strength and number of connected devices.
For the caring and sharing amongst you, the device also features shared storage capability through a microSD slot with up to 32GB.
