Vodafone picks up chairman from HSBC

LONDON-Vodafone Group plc named banking group HSBC Holdings plc Chairman John Bond as its new chairman.

Bond, who announced his resignation from HSBC last week, will succeed Vodafone Chief Executive Officer Ian MacLaurin, who spent nine years with the company and twice served as chairman.

MacLaurin, who is retiring, will become an adviser to the company and chairman of the Vodafone Group Foundation. Bond is expected to take the chairmanship in July 2006.

Vodafone owns a 45-percent stake in Verizon Wireless.
