Independence Day is almost here, and in addition to firing up sizzling grills and popping off fireworks, Austin-based Phunware Inc. would like users to download a free app launched today to celebrate the occasion. The company’s new “Our America” app is available for free on Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) App Store for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and can be downloaded here.
The app is a tribute to the birth of the United States and allows users to share photos from across America via Facebook and Twitter and provides users the ability to create digital postcards of U.S. destinations.
Users can take photos of America’s unique and captivating landmarks and share them or browse original photos taken by others.
Features include posting as many photos a user wants, creating digital postcards for any state, accessing a personal Our America photo album, viewing the Our America photo gallery and comparing postcards made by other Americans along with the ability to browse Our America dialogue through Facebook and Twitter feeds.
One user on the App Store site commented, “As an ex-Army Ranger I want to thank you all for doing this. About time we get back to focusing on the greatness of the greatest country in the world. Happy 4th of July everyone. Time to celebrate America!”
Phunware previously released an app for the Discovery Channel’s MythBusters program, which won a people’s voice 2011 Webby award in the category of best entertainment app of 2010 for tablets and all other devices.
