DoCoMo leads in worldwide data ARPU

LONDON-Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo led the world in data average revenue per user during the second quarter, according to research from Informa Telecoms & Media’s World Cellular Data Metrics.

DoCoMo recorded data ARPU of $17.60 during the quarter, with i-mode ARPU alone chipping in $16.90. Following behind DoCoMo was its domestic rival KDDI, with data ARPU of $16.40.

Informa said DoCoMo had more than 43.3 million active i-mode users as of June, which is equivalent to 85 percent of its total subscriber base. The carrier’s data revenues exceeded $2.4 billion for the quarter.

The leading data ARPU operator in Europe was O2 Ireland with ARPU of $13.70.
