Nokia to include antivirus protection on smart phones

CUPERTINO, Calif.-Nokia Corp. announced it will install antivirus software on its line of smart phones. The company will use security software from Symantec Corp. in the Series 60 smart-phone platform, which runs on the Symbian operating system.

“As the leading mobile-device manufacturer, Nokia is determined to be active in the development of security controls and preventive measures against malware,” said Matti Vanska, director of Nokia’s Technology Platforms business. “The collaboration with Symantec, the leading security solution provider, is another step in our aim to bring the most advanced security features into Series 60-based devices.”

Symantec’s Mobile Security for Symbian OS defends against viruses, worms and Trojan horses, automatically removing any it finds. The software can be updated over a wireless connection and can watch for malicious code in messaging, HTTP and e-mail files.
