Cingular Wireless L.L.C. reported an agreement with national entertainment retailer Musicland Group Inc. to sell Cingular’s postpaid and prepaid GoPhone products in nearly 400 Sam Goody and Media Play stores beginning next month.
The companies also said they would collaborate on “new approaches to retailing digital and wireless devices, such as phones to download music and share pictures, as well as MP3 players, digital cameras, broadband, consumer electronics and fashion.” Cingular will be the exclusive postpaid wireless provider for this new initiative, which is scheduled to be rolled out in test markets during the next several months.
“Musicland will be a strong addition to Cingular’s world-class distribution network,” said Glenn Lurie, president of National Distribution at Cingular. “Offering our products in Musicland’s stores will play a significant role in Cingular’s leadership in attracting the youth segment and creating new growth opportunities through innovative sales and marketing approaches.”
Sam Goody currently sells Virgin Mobile USA L.L.C. prepaid services.
Cingular recently signed a 10-year agreement to sell postpaid and prepaid products and services through more than 5,000 RadioShack Corp. retail locations beginning next year.
