Chip firm Marvell has been dealt a significant blow after losing its lucrative BlackBerry contract to Texas Instruments.
Marvell has long been the chip provider for the Canadian firm, but after losing the PlayBook contract to TI after failing to successfully integrate the hardware with the tablet’s striking software, the little chip firm seems to have also lost RIM’s phone business, with the upcoming 9900 running on TI’s OMAP SoC.
“It’s a painful hit to us,” a Marvell employee told RCR anonymously.
Meanwhile, RIM’s PR confirmed that its new phone lineup was based on TI’s chipsets.
Will Marvell recover from the loss? It remains to be seen.
