SEOUL, Korea-Nortel Networks Ltd. and LG Electronics Co. Ltd. have won contracts to provide broadband wireless communications for KTF, Korea’s second-largest wireless carrier. Nortel said it will provide High-Speed Downlink Packet Access-based access equipment, while LG will furnish a UMTS core network solution.
The deal is the first collaborative win for LG and Nortel since the companies announced a joint venture in August.
KTF plans to roll out its HSDPA-ready wireless broadband network to 17 cities, including Seoul, by December of this year, with an additional 45 cities going live by June 2006.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
