Marvel Digital shows off affordable Android tablet – Mercury

Marvel Digital has released a video of its Mercury tablet, an affordable 7-inch device running Android 2.3.1 (Gingerbread).

A YouTube video shows the tablet being put through its paces, with a demo of Angry Birds, an HD YouTube video, some sort of 3D UI home-screen for app browsing, and seemingly smooth transitions between screens.

The device looks to be a little on the thick side compared with other 7-inch tabs we’ve seen, but then again, the recommended price point for Marvel Digital’s offering is just $259, a darn-side cheaper than anything comparable we’ve seen to date. It weighs 510 grams.

We’re told the screen is capacitive multi-touch, and the video shows pinch to zoom capabilities on a screen with 800 x 400 resolution.

The device sports a 0.3M – 2M pixel camera on the front, is capable of both Wi-Fi and 3G, sports a USB 2.0 and HDMI output and comes in 4GB/8GB/16GB flavors.

The processor is said to be a Samsung S5PV210, built around an ARM Cortex-A8 processor, with a 1GHz system clock.
