EWan 1 gets funding for WiMAX deployments

SANTA ANA, Calif.-WiMAX player eWan 1 Inc. announced it scored a $1 million funding commitment to build out its WiMAX offering in places like the Virgin Islands and Mexico. eWan’s funds come from Chicago-based Nutmeg Group L.L.C.

“We have carefully planned our approach to the global consumer market, first deploying our advanced Wi-Fi proficiency in the United States, and by acquiring a leading wireless broadband company, and one of the nation’s oldest cable companies, giving us a national footprint,” said William Kettle, eWan’s chairman and chief executive officer. “In moving toward an international posture, we intend to capture an early and significant proportion of under-served markets in areas as yet untouched by multinational companies.”

EWan is one of a number of companies claiming WiMAX buildout plans.
