Huawei announces innovation JVs with Telus, Bell Canada

Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. said it has signed agreements with Canadian telecommunications providers Bell Canada (BCE) and Telus Corp. (TU) to create “joint innovation centers” in Canada.
With Bell Canada, Huawei said the center would be used to “collaborate on developing and enhancing broadband wireless solutions, core network products and value-added service offerings.” With Telus, the center would be used as a platform to work on “enhancing broadband solutions, wireless and wireline offerings.”
Terms for the JV with Telus were noted as a three year agreement with each company owning 50% of the venture. The Bell Canada venture was not provided with any details of the agreement.
In late 2008 Bell Canada and Telus both tapped Huawei to build out portions of their respective HSPA-based networks.
Telus Mobility, which is currently Canada’s third largest mobile operator, announced last month that it expects its mobile operations to become a larger contributor to the carrier’s bottom line.
