The R/F PalmStation wireless docking station was released by EnBloc, Inc., Portland, Ore. The company provides integrated radio frequency and wireline communications solutions. The EnBloc product was designed for Hewlett-Packard Co.’s line of palmtop personal computers. The company reports its docking station weighs only 1.7 pounds and calls it the most compact R/F docking station ever developed for the HP palmtop. The product includes an internal, programmable modem, custom-designed antenna, firmware and preloaded software and gives the HP device the capability to transmit wireless data and e-mail communications. JRC International Inc. released the PTR 829 handheld cellular phone. The Fort Worth, Texas-based company said the product offers straightforward security and simplified programming. PTR, available in American and international markets, is manufactured by JRC in Canada and is certified by the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association. JRC said the phone comes shipped with an alkaline battery pack requiring 5 AA batteries, which are not included, or with a 700mAh integrated nickel cadmium battery with a charger and a charging adapter. The company said the product allows the HP 8921A cell site test set to evaluate all major characteristics of Advanced Mobile Phone Service systems. Mitsubishi Wireless Communications, Wood Dale, Ill., announced its AH-5000 portable cellular phone. The company said it is the smallest, lightest weight cellular phone ever developed by Mitsubishi. The phone reportedly weighs only 6.5 ounces and slips easily into a pocket or purse. With the extended life battery, the AH-5000 provides 2.3 hours of talk time or 28 hours of standby time. The slim battery supplies one hour of talk time or 12 hours of standby time. Mitsubishi said the battery can be charged while the phone is in use without ending the current call. A new UHF band frequency-synthesized FM portable two-way radio has been introduced by Midland International, Kansas City, Mo. The Midland 70-248 portable radio operates in a wideband frequency range of 406-470 MHz and features user-selectable 4 watts or 2 watts of RF output power, the company said. Portable cellular phone users can receive their calls silently with VibraRing from ORA Electronics, Chatsworth, Calif. PageMart, Inc., Dallas, launched what it says is the industry’s first carrier-provided software developer’s program (SDP) designed to support easy integration of wireless messaging into both commercially available and customized software applications.
