Inmarsat-P has been spun off as a separate company from the International Mobile Satellite Organization although Inmarsat retains a 15 percent interest in the affiliate company.
American Mobile Satellite Corp. launched its geostationary satellite this past April and said it plans to introduce four mobile voice and data services this fall.
The Federal Communications Commission approved licenses for Iridium Inc., TRW Odyssey and Globalstar L.P. to construct and launch low-earth-orbiting systems. LEO satellite applications filed by Constellation Communications Inc. and Mobile Communications Holdings Inc. have not yet met FCC financial qualifications but have until next January to shore up financing (RCR, Feb. 13, 1995, p.4).
