Westlink Paging has acquired the assets of Telecomm Systems Inc., a paging firm based in Portland, Ore., representing 85,000 additional paging units in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Nevada and Colorado. The purchase of Telecomm Systems brings Westlink’s total subscribers to 430,000, said Daniels & Associates of Denver, which represented the seller in the transaction.

PCS Development Corp. announced it signed a memorandum of understanding with American Paging Inc. to develop and market voice messaging services for the PCSD network, expected to be operational in 1997. PCSD, one of five companies owning paired nationwide 50 kHz/50 kHz inbound/outbound narrowband personal communications services licenses, said it is developing advanced communications systems for business applications and the personal messaging market. PCSD noted that with the American Paging agreement, the company now has distribution agreements with seven partner companies and three operating companies which are strategic partners in PCSD.

NEC America and Desktop Paging Software Inc. announced a strategic alliance to offer U-Page trial software with NEC MessageMaker Tracker pager shipments. MessageMaker Tracker is NEC’s one-line alphanumeric pager. Computer users who use Microsoft Windows, MS-DOS and Macintosh operating systems can use the software to send text messages to pagers.

Heartland Communications Inc. recently opened offices in Bannockburn, Ill., as a pager carrier in the Midwest and a reseller for Paging Network Inc. in other parts of the nation. The company was spun off from ComTech Inc., a cellular reseller in Northern California and a former nationwide paging company.

Uniden America Corp. formed a new Wireless Products Division. Tim Moore, vice president of sales at the company’s Commercial Communications Division, and Greg Jones, vice president of product and technology development, will head the new division. The new division will target the data processing, software and communications industry’s wireless data business units.

Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile introduced TalkAlong cellular service to its customers in western Pennsylvania and the New York metropolitan area. TalkAlong is a simple, affordable cellular service with lower access rates and flat-rate billing for selected zones in the area, according to the carrier. The service already has been introduced in the Baltimore, Md./Washington, D.C., market and in northern New Jersey.

AT&T Network Systems Inc. and Vision Software Inc. are offering an integrated computer platform for emergency response communication centers. The Palladium 9-1-1 system combines call response, computer-aided dispatching, records management and integrated services digital network technology. The client-server network is accessed by a single desktop computer and is available for analog or ISDN phone systems. Palladium 9-1-1 is scheduled to be available this month.
