ATLANTA-GTE Mobilnet said it achieved precommercial interoperability between its Hughes Network Systems Inc. and Northern Telecom Ltd. cellular digital packet data networks.
The achievement will allow GTE to provide seamless CDPD services to customers in all of its markets and develop a nationwide seamless CDPD network, the company said.
Hughes Network Systems equipment serves 10 GTE market areas where CDPD is deployed. The Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, N.C., areas, which began offering CDPD service in October, are served by a Nortel CDPD System, GTE said.
