ATLANTA-GTE Mobilnet announced a new pricing structure for its Cellular Digital Packet Data network that reflects a 40 percent to 60 percent reduction from previously published rates.
GTE said the prices feature a flat monthly charge with bundled kilobytes, designed to suit different customer usage profiles.
“The new pricing plan responds to wireless data customers’ desire for predictable monthly CDPD transmission charges,” said Jay Sheth, director of business market planning for GTE. “Our new usage-based pricing with liberal monthly volume allowances helps customers budget their expenditures.”
GTE said the low usage plan includes a $15 per unit charge for up to 125 kilobytes monthly, with an effective rate of 12 cents per kilobyte. Usage of more than 125 kilobytes is priced at 12 cents per kilobyte, GTE said.
The medium usage plan is priced at about $50 per unit per month for up to 1,000 kilobytes, for an effective rate of 5 cents per kilobyte, the company said. Customers pay 8 cents per kilobyte after they have used 1,000 kilobytes per month.
GTE said it established a $100 per unit monthly charge for its high usage plan. The plan includes up to 3,000 kilobytes for an effective rate of 3.3 cents per kilobyte, with usage over that amount costing 5 cents per kilobyte, the company said.
GTE said the new rates are effective immediately in all of its CDPD markets and in any other carriers’ markets where the company has an interoperability agreement in place.
