MOTOROLA HANDSET IS CORDLESS AT HOME, CELLULAR ON THE ROAD

LAS VEGAS-Motorola Inc.’s Cellular Subscriber Group announced plans for the commercial availability of a cellular telephone that can also be used as a cordless phone at home or at work.

The phone-the next step in Motorola’s Personal Phone Series as part of its new Signature Series-is scheduled to be available later this quarter, Motorola said.

Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems said it plans to use the PPS phone in its FreedomPlus service offering. The FreedomPlus service uses the PPS product in the home for cordless operation, the cellular system for calls outside and FreedomLink wireless private branch exchange for all calls in the workplace, Motorola said.

Motorola said key features include an easy-to-read message in the display showing which system is being used and a selectable scan that allows users to select cordless or cellular line options. In addition, when the handset is in range of the personal base station, cellular calls can be routed to the base’s landline location via intelligent network equipment.
