RUTHERFORD, N.J.-Nextel Communications Inc. reported a net loss of $118.9 million, or 62 cents per share, for the fourth quarter 1995, compared with $102.1 million, or 61 cents per share, in the third quarter 1995.
Net loss for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 1995 was $331.1 million, or $2.31 per share, compared with $149.7 million, or $1.51 per share, for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 1994. Nextel is building out a digital specialized mobile radio network throughout the country, leading to losses the company predicts will continue into the near future.
Revenues for the fourth quarter 1995 increased to $79.9 million from $65.3 million for the third quarter 1995. Revenues for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 1995 were $225.2 million compared with $102.7 million for 1994, an increase of 119 percent.
At the end of 1995, Nextel and its acquired companies had about 820,000 analog units in service and about 96,000 digital units in service. The company reported 66,000 digital units as of Sept. 30, 1995.
The number of common shares outstanding on Dec. 31, 1995 was 193.6 million. Nextel completed several critical financial transactions in 1995.
