RICHARDSON, Texas-Ericsson Inc. will supply Omnipoint Corp. equipment for its New York-based personal communications services network, the companies said. The equipment is configured with Omnipoint’s Interim Standard-661 and Ericsson’s PCS 1900 technologies.
Over the next five years Ericsson could supply Omnipoint with up to $350 million in network services and equipment and $100 million in mobile phones.
Initially, Ericsson will deliver mobile switching centers, base station controllers, radio base station equipment and implementation and support services. Both companies’ technologies use GSM-based architecture.
Omnipoint holds equipment contracts with Northern Telecom Inc. as well. In total, the PCS operator plans to buy more than $750 million in equipment for its New York network.
